The aim of the course is to empower students with sufficient knowledge so as to be able to create their own fragrances, using traditional perfume-making methods from the world's perfume capital - GRASSE, while being able to apply the Art of Perfumery in a more modern context. This is a unique course that is different from any perfumery course you might come across as it focuses on the ART of perfumery and not on the Chemistry of it. This Diploma course is ideal for people who are aiming to become professional perfumers in any capacity ranging from setting up their own perfumery business, formulating perfumes and functional products for private or corporate clients, regulatory affairs in the context of the perfumery, cosmetics and personal care industry, delivering educational workshops to clients whether individual or corporate, joining a perfume manufacturing or retailing company, marketing or selling perfumes and scented functional products, copywriting and editing documents or articles in magazines or blogs.

MODULE 1: THE SENSES OF SMELL
Describe the olfactory function; Assess and recognise the various raw materials
Detect the aromatic compounds and decipher their chemistry; Explore his/her own sense of smell and work towards improving it; Differentiate the different types of perfumes; Explain Gas chromatography and Mass spectrometry; Know the most common extraction methods of raw materials; Plan a perfume using the accords and matching methods; Select the right aromatic oils for the targeted type of perfume; Create the perfume accords.
MODULE 2: ORIGIN AND HISTORY AND PERFUMERY
Differentiate between the ART and the INDUSTRY of perfumery; Describe the developments of perfumery throughout history; Know the importance of perfume heritage and cultures in various countries; Develop a knowledge of sources and differentiation of raw materials according to the country; Analyse past, current and future trends in perfumery; Become an anthropologist of perfumery.
MODULE 3: FRAGRANCE CREATION
Plan and compose a complete formulation using his/her creative skills & intuition; Calculate measurements and prepare a formulation sheet to the industry standards; Record formulations and procedures for regulatory purposes; Create different aromatic bases and use them in accords and perfumes; Create and modify the most classic perfumes such as Chypre, Fougère, Arabian/Oriental, Floral, Cologne; Outline the constraints in perfume creation using naturals; Use and add natural isolates appropriately; Create other application of fragrances; List the technical steps and processes from the creation to the bottling of a perfume.
MODULE 4: HEALTH, SAFETY, ENVIRONMENT
Decode a Material Data Safety Sheet; Create labelling according to international nomanclature of cosmetics ingredients (INCI); Register the cosmetic products on the Cosmetic Product Notification Portal of the European Union; Define and calculate the allergens; Outline good manufacturing practises; Detail product information & specifications; Summarise the EU cosmetics directive; Start selling cosmetic products according to the EU regulations; Apply formulation and legislation in functional products; Draw upon this knowledge to be able to market cosmetic products in countries outside the EU.
MODULE 5: BECOMING A PERFUME EXPERT
You will be required to do a lot of personal research and you will be able to communicate with your tutor via email or phone for guidance. Note that even though we state this part takes 50 hours, branding and marketing in the perfumery industry are probably the most difficult and challenging aspects of this industry. In essence, the more clarity you have on what you want to do exactly, the more we can help and guide you to achieve your goals. After this lesson, you will be able to:
